JONES VOICES CONCERN OVER TROOPS’ QUESTIONS TO RUMSFELD
JONES VOICES CONCERN OVER TROOPS’ QUESTIONS TO RUMSFELD
Washington, D.C.- Third District Congressman Walter B. Jones comments on reports from Iraq that troops are still not being sufficiently protected and lack armor:
"I fear for the lives of these American troops when they have to rummage through Iraqi landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to protect their vehicles. As the Secretary noted 'it isn't a matter of funding...but a question of production and capability.' I was pleased to receive written documentation from the Department of Defense indicating that they have indeed increased their armor significantly since 2003. However, this soldier's statement worries me nonetheless, because it is an unfortunate sign that many still feel inadequately protected from the enemy. As a result, I look forward to returning in the 109th Congress and expect there will be hearings on this critical issue."
