Here is a Boston Globe op-ed piece that clearly points out a sad state of affairs in our nations military. However, to be fair, I can recall that the situation wasn't any better during the 50's, 60's and 70's when they had the draft. I was on recruiting duty in '71-'72, and because there were so many inductees needed, we were "shipping" mental group IV's. Group IV's are those who tested barely above 20 on the ASVAB test - and you got 16 points for filling out your name and Social Security Number correctly.
