Bob,
The Miami Herald...
...has an ongoing series concerning hurricane research/reco/forecasts, etc...
Part 1...
Part 2...
Parts 3 & 4 are coming tomorrow and Wednesday...
Harry,
Bob and I flew on the NOAA WP-3Ds when they were based in Miami. He is an EE, while I was an ET, later the senior ET for both WP-3Ds..
Bob,
Harry and I worked together at the US Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) in both Washington DC and at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Both as ETs at the time, although Harry is now an EE and was the Ships Engineer for the ship I was on, the USNS Wyman. Harry and his family also live in Long Beach, MS and recently had a house guest named Katrina...

Stan,
Larry K. Gronmeyer trying to make contact with you.
Please respond to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
We are here most of the time. Telephone number is xxxxxxxxxxxx.
Hope things have improved there.
Our oldest son also had some damage to his house. Not major though. He lives in Petal.

Stan,
Very sorry to read about all that has happened to you and Esther and all the other
friends of the NAVO.
I was lucky beyond belief and did not sustain any damage.
I was at my sister's just south of Asheville, NC.
Wesley is in school at LSMSA in Natchitoches and did not miss any classes.
I ran into Lew Robertson at Sears on Sat. He is all right. He gave me his email
address but I have misplaced it, still looking.

Stan,
This may not be in the tenor of your news bulletins, but thought I'd send it on for informational purposes. I went this morning to the Slidell Outlet Mall to apply for the Red Cross aid. It took 50 minutes from the time I first stopped in line until I was on my way back to I-10. The women I talked to there said to be sure to tell your neighbors about the reduced time. All my neighbors went during the first two days but there may be others out there like me who were waiting for the lines to go down. They have. The irony is I stopped by WalMart on the way home and waited longer in the check out line than I did for the Red Cross. It was an hour and ten minutes car to car at WalMart.
Keep up the good work.

Stan,
Is it possible to get the original of Tom Crew's piece on the hurricane, - - - complete with pictures? I received the original you sent (sans the pics) with the comment about the pics taking too long to transmit. I intend to send it to my hometown newspaper in Iowa.

Hi Stan,
I don't know if people are getting the word about the big changes coming
in the Bankruptcy laws. Those feeling the need to declare bankruptcy
because of Kristina, Rita or other reasons should contact a bankruptcy
lawyer ASAP and file before October 17th. Waiting could cost them tens
of thousands of dollars!!!!

Stan,
This may be of little concern with all the Katrina problems, but a heads-up
might be in order. I just got a post card and they seem to operate in
spurts. The mailings apparently cause a good bit of concern for some people
who think one of their investments is involved. For a moment I wondered if
it might be about an ancient policy my father took out on ME that we
discovered after he died this year.
It is a scam. Lots of people do waste time calling only to find it is to
get a salesperson "in the door" and some reports indicate it is also used to
break the "do-not-call" block--you've now contacted the company and have a
"relationship."
The card:
Annutity Service Center
P.O. Box 1012
Medina, OH 44258
(800) 560-9448
"This notice is to inform you that you may have an annuity that has reached
the end of its surrender period. Please contact (name varies) in our annuity
service center to discuss your options."
One web page has this:

(Colorado Springs, CO, July 29, 2005) - An organization called the Annuity
Service Center is creating confusion and havoc for seniors. The Better
Business Bureau of Southern Colorado is warning the public, especially
senior citizens, to watch out for a misleading direct mail piece, which is
sent out by the Annuity Service Center. The hope is that the recipient will
return the postcard with the requested information filled out.
The tactic the company uses is to tell the recipient they may have an
annuity that has reached the end of its surrender period. What's really
going on is the Annuity Service Center is attempting to get prospects for
financial advisors.
This company has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB due to unanswered
complaints and their questionable solicitations.

Any of our colleagues worried about insurance and rebuilding don't need this
little irritation!
